The UK is officially in a double dip recession, but that will not stop holidaymakers from making an effort to find package holidays.

Many will be taking to the internet in search of cheap deals involving a sunny location and even luxurious accommodation. The beaches of Spain, Portugal, Italy, Egypt and the Canary Islands will be beckoning many.

Spain is still statistically the most popular European destination for Brits, and will be even more popular now due to the currency situation. The pound has hit a record high against the Euro, so many are looking to take advantage of the situation and get the most bang for their buck.

Every pound is now worth approximately €1.22 or slightly less, so many are advising to stock up on Euros. However some have warned that this is only the beginning and that the pound will rise still higher, so holidaymakers may want to be patient and get the most for their money.

Alex Lawson, senior broker at foreign exchange company Moneycorp.com told the Guardian recently: “There’s a good chance that the pound could rise further against the euro over the next month or two … but this is less down to any inherent strength in sterling, and more due to the continued weakness of the Euro. A smart strategy would be to buy some of your holiday euros now, and the rest closer to your departure. That way you’ll get some at a good rate – and may get the rest at a brilliant rate.”

Holidays in Spain will no doubt become even more popular due to the currency situation as well as the fact that great savings can be found by booking online with agencies such as Thomas Cook.

Currently the travel agency is offering seven nights all inclusive on the Costa Adeje for less than £500 per person.
